You have spent the time to craft a beautiful musical piece or recorded a sound and uploaded it to your Pixabay account. But how can you be sure your audio will be discovered by others? From keywords!
Although it can seem tedious, effective keywording is an advantageous step in publishing your content. Tagging your audio with the right keywords will increase their visibility by ensuring they appear in relevant search results. The wrong keywords could be detrimental to your success in getting your audio found and may also result in your file being rejected. By keeping it simple and sticking to the facts, keywording can be a painless part of your workflow.
Please note that our in-house review team will categorise your track so it will be discoverable in the left sidebar categories, but we've also allowed you to optionally tag your audio to increase discovery in search.
The DOs
1) Describe accurately! How would an outsider describe your audio? Be as precise as possible, as incorrect tagging could cause delays and result in your upload being rejected.
2) Know when to stop! 3-10 keywords are ideal to describe most content. Excessive keywording can dilute relevancy and cause your audio to get pushed further down in search results.
3) Check for spelling errors! Misspellings or keywords in the wrong language will not be found. Please use US English.
4) Be careful when batch keywording! Avoid copying irrelevant tags to new uploads.
5) Use concepts where relevant! Concepts are keywords or key phrases that illustrate an idea. For example relaxing, happy, dramatic.
The DON'Ts
1) Do not list every instrument. Where it is obvious and makes sense that an audio file is a piano piece, that is fine, but where it features multiple instruments, it is unnecessary to list every single instrument used.
1) Do not describe your audio equipment with keywords.
2) Do not describe the audio type or license, e.g. sound effects, wav, public domain etc
3) Do not include your username or business name.
4) Do not "Spam" your audio file with irrelevant keywords. We may penalize users in the case that the tags do not match the expected results.
